Jony Perel pictures himself more as a cartographer than a filmmaker: in his films he draws maps and visits places. He loves to shoot in real locations and with natural light, and his shots always start really early, never skipping a sunrise or a sunset. Also, he feels comfortable with small crews, that can move fast and steadily. He has shot four feature documentaries, six short films and has been awarded with prizes like Jurado Bafici 2022, Mejor Director Bafici 2021, Premio Especial del Jurado Documenta 2020… His work has been showcased in A list festivals like Berlinale, Viennale, Rotterdam or IDFA. When shooting commercials he doesn’t see much difference than when he shoots his docs. In both cases his look at reality ends up in the footage, impacting the viewer. He is comfortable working among the limits that reality sets, trying to capture authenticity and not just a perfectly set scene for the camera. He has won one Silver Lion and three bronze in Cannes.
